Gaming has come a long way since the early days and the original first steps into multiplayer games. Today, players from all around the globe can come together, regardless of distance, and have thousands of unique multiplayer gaming experiences. Co-op and multiplayer video games have become a cornerstone of modern gaming. This blog post will explore what we think are some of the best options out there for gaming sessions with your friends. We will go over five different titles that each provide a different type of gaming experience but can all be enjoyed with multiple friends.
1-8 players in a lobby
Rocket League fuses soccer with rocket-powered cars, creating a unique sports game experience to played with and against your friends. Players compete in fast-paced matches, strategizing and performing acrobatic feats to score goals and secure victories. In online matchmaking players can queue with up to 3 other players and in custom games can face each other for a total of 8 players engaged in high-octane car soccer. Rocket League games are quick and are a great way to run some quick matches together with friends in a game that can be played casually or competitively.
League of Legends
1-10 players in a lobby
If you keep up with gaming at all then you probably know about League of Legends and have heard a lot about the community or the game in general. There is a reason the game is so popular and has been for so long: League offers multiplayer gameplay that has so many different styles and ways to play that are maintained and improved on regularly. League is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) where players team up with 4 other players to face down a team of 5 other players. League offers custom games so if you have a bunch of friends you can split into 2 squads and square off as well as dive into the featured game modes the game has to offer. Currently there is a summer event game mode that allows you to bring a friend with you for a 2v2v2v2 deathmatch game mode. League is not for everyone but if you have friends you want to game with you should definitely get your squad together and try it out.
1-8 players in a lobby
Raft is a departure in a different direction from the previous two game in that it is a co-op multiplayer game as opposed a competitive multiplayer game. Raft throws players into a post-disaster world where a vast majority of the planet is covered in water and the player need to survive and thrive on their small wooden raft. Players will collect supplies and crafting materials to build out and improve their raft while visiting islands and other structures in the watery world. Raft is not all peaceful as there is a hungry shark that will assail the players' raft and they must work together to fend it off while continuing to build and improve. Raft is great for a group of friends looking to take on a survival challenge that still has a chill and laidback vibe overall.
Dead by Daylight
1-5 players in a lobby
Dead by Daylight is our horror option for a great game to play with friends. Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical competitive multiplayer game where 4 survivors are put into a map where they must attempt to escape the clutches of a killer that is being played by a different player. The survivors will have to hide and run from the killer who is using their unique abilities to hunt down and attempt to kill the survivors before they escape. The survivors have a stealth puzzle gaming experience while the killer has an ability-rich hunting experience: a big part of what makes this game so interesting and fun to play with friends. The game also features a lot of big guest characters from a lot of different horror franchises. Dead by Daylight is perfect for gaming groups that love high-tension horror gameplay that may also have one bloodthirsty (in game) friend looking to hunt down the others.
1-4 players in a lobby
For fans of chaotic and light-hearted fun, Overcooked! 2 delivers an unforgettable co-op experience. As chefs in a bustling kitchen, players must work together to prepare and serve orders while overcoming absurd obstacles. Coordination and communication are key, as the kitchen's layout constantly changes, putting friendships and teamwork to the test. Overcooked! 2 is a great game to break out with friends on the couch at home or on the internet when you are looking for a hectic and aggravating but still super fun party gaming experience. Just be prepared for someone to yell at one of the other players but just remember that it is all in good fun.
Check out any of these games if you are ever on the hunt for something new to play with your gaming group or possibly to get a non-gaming friend into gaming as whole.
